Doctrinal Distinctives

The following is a link to our doctrinal distinctives.

FREE: We have been freed from conditional theology and legalism.

COVENANT: We emphasize God’s eternal election and covenant as the fundamental and controlling theme of all Scripture.

REFORMED: We are committed to the Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism and the Canons of Dort as our confessions.

The Free Covenant Reformed Church was born in 2025 as the fruit of two major doctrinal controversies:

The first occurred in the Protestant Reformed Churches (PRC) that asserted the Federal Vision doctrine that man’s obedience was part of the way in which we experience covenant communion with God. By adopting this heresy, the PRC compromised the doctrine of justification by faith alone. It displaced the perfect work of Christ for us, in us, and through us. When we testified against this error we were forced out of the PRC.

Those who separated formed the Reformed Protestant Churches (RPC) in 2021. Sadly, these churches quickly turned aside into teachings of rank legalism by demanding physical separation and shunning of all other Christians who were not RP. This spawned a litany of legalistic rules and cruel discipline that bound the consciences of believers and scattered the sheep.

But our covenant Christ who gathers, defends and preserves his church called us out of the RPC in January 2025 and the Free Covenant Reformed Church was established. The Free Covenant Reformed Church affirms that God's covenant with his people is entirely unconditional and unilateral from beginning to end. It is an entirely gracious covenant both in its maintenance and in its experience of fellowship with God. It is not dependent on man’s obedience but on God alone through Christ alone by faith alone.

Through this difficult way, God has shown us hard things (Ps. 60:3). He humbled us because we boasted in our own selves, and our own faithfulness. We were sometimes foolish, deceived, hateful and hating one another (Tit. 3:3). But God being kind and merciful, granted us repentance from our errors and provided us a place of refuge and safety from the storm where our Reformed heritage is taught and God's people walk in the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23).

Three Forms of Unity

The confessions or three forms of unity are essential doctrines to the Reformed faith. Free Covenant Reformed Church stands on these confessions as the doctrinal foundation of our beliefs.
